    CNN anchor Paula Zahn is set tonight at 8 PM Eastern to report on the ex-gay movement, highlighting the case of a young Tennessee boy named Zach Stark. Zach's parents committed him to the care of a Memphis group called Love In Action.  Zach is scheduled to leave the camp tomorrow.  The case and its implications for other families is discussed in a press release issued this week by PFLAG (Parents, Friends, and Families of Lesbians and Gays).

Dr. Nora J. Baladerian and Attorney Thomas F. Coleman outside of the main meeting room at the 15th National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect where they distributed a press release from Congressman George Miller about the "Stop Abuse of Institutionalized Minors Act" which he introduced on April 20.  Hundreds of conference participants received the press release.  To read more about the bill, click here.

Dr. Nora J. Baladerian and Attorney Thomas F. Coleman attended a statewide child abuse prevention conference in Albany, New York this week.  Brochures about the Emancipation Project were distributed to hundreds of professionals attending the conference.  Their workshop, about the abusive practices of abduction services and unlicensed residential facilities for juveniles, had standing room only and was very well received.  To view the "power point" presentation shown at the workshop, click here.

The presentation will be used during workshops at upcoming professional conferences to educate a variety of  audiences about serious problems of abuse and neglect associated with abduction services and private residential facilities for juveniles.

Utah Governor Signs Licensing Bill

Governor Jon Huntsman signed into law today a bill (SB 107) which requires privately operated "therapeutic boarding schools" to be licensed and regulated by the state Department of Human Services.  As a result, such facilities will be subject to unannounced visits and will have to adhere to basic child welfare standards.

A few weeks ago, the Emancipation Project met with a top aide to the Governor to discuss the need for greater government oversight of private residential facilities.
